Clare, Bob, and Pat Versus the World

This girl here is my quirky roommate, Clare, with her suspicious face. Bob and Pat were the second pair of shoes that I painted. My other roommates and I chipped in for the materials and gave these to her as our birthday present (yes, our, and we were already being generous at that).

This is her angry face. She told me so.

The thing about these shoes is that she actually planned to have these shoes made during the Christmas season. We talked about this the day before her birthday this was the particular design that she wanted. Some of our roommates overheard this conversation, connived, ruined Clare's plans and gave her the shoes the next week as the delayed birthday present.

I wasn't able to take pictures of Bob and Pat the day I finished painting them. Clare got them dirty the first time she wore it so there was little chance of taking decent shots. Then the shoes got so dirty that if she wanted to see Bob and Pat again, she had no choice but to wash them (do you appreciate that I'm using a figure of speech here?)

When I told her that I'm asking the former customers to send pictures of the shoes I painted for them, she panicked, I don't know why, and we had this dialogue:

Clare:Ako din!! (with her voice breaking and forehead crinkling)
Lenlen: May pictures ka ba nyan?
Clare: May camera ako!!
Lenlen: O--
Clare: At may connector din ako sa laptop!!
Lenlen: Ah ok--
Clare: (fetched the camera and the USB cable, gave these to me, fetched her shoes and struck a pose. see Image 1) Ayan!
Lenlen: Er. . .Ok. . . dun ka sa liwanag.

So that's the story of the picture of the very calm Clare and her shoes. The end.

Next time, I'll be writing about Lori's shoes, The Totoros. See ya!

P.S. Here are other fun facts about Clare's shoes:
- When I drew their faces, I didn't know that there was an episode where Spongebob and Patrick quarreled. One of my roommates told me about it after we gave the shoes to Clare.
- The shoes are size 9 because that was what Clare told me, after measuring her foot. It turns out that she's a size 7. She had to put two layers of insole padding for each shoe just to get the right fit.
-She told me on the first day that she wore the shoes, some guy told her that she was wearing odd shoes. Well, Clare and her shoes are both odd in more ways than one, and still, they are charming. :)
